STORY TIME
Dhaga began at the start of 2023, sparked by the energy at Dialled In and Daytimers — spaces that celebrated a new wave of South Asian musicians, DJs, and creatives who refused to conform. But while sound had its scene, we noticed a gap: where were the spaces for South Asian visual artists?
Our founder, coming from a visual arts and design background, set out to curate a small group exhibition. Word spread, fast. More artists wanted in. At the first meet-up, it became clear this was something we all needed. Just being in a room together — sharing ideas, seeing each other — was enough to spark something bigger.
Dhaga was born out of that moment.
This is the space many of us wish we had growing up. We rarely saw South Asian role models in creative fields. Our parents didn’t always understand the creative industry — and often still don’t — even though our cultures are full of artistry, expression, and storytelling.
Dhaga exists to shift that. To hold space, build community, and make things better for those coming after us — while we figure it out ourselves, together.
